A CLASSICAL CONTEMPORARY DANCE COMPANY!! DANCE CREW is a professional classical contemporary dance company based in Tokai a suburb of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. The company is partially funded by Western Cape Department of Culture, National Arts Council and private Sponsors. The company was started in 1993 to create original choreography, work opportunities for dancers and develop new audiences. The development of new audiences was addressed by the company's performances in rural areas and other areas not normally associated with classical dance companies. A 36 section portable dance floor and traveling sound and lighting equipment enables them to perform in areas that do not have suitable venues. Dance Crew has a wide repertoire of original dance works, many with original music specially created for them. They have performed locally in the Western Cape in Piketberg, Saron, Tulbagh, Hermanus, Grahamstown, Franschoek, Stellenbosch and Simonstown and have an annual season at the Maynardville Open Air Theatre in Wynberg in March. In the Eastern Cape they performed in Mthatha as part of a dance training project that they have established. The company has performed in Greece by invitation for a 3 week season. Young dancers from the AGBS perform with Dance Crew when there is a need for young dancers. Original work for special commissions and occasions can be created. The creation of Theatre-on-Main provides a permanent venue for the company to perform on a regular basis.
